adidas Basketball has revived the classic Pro Model 2G in two original colorways: black/white and white/black. A memorable team hoops shoe that first released back in 2003, the Pro Model 2G is an updated take on the original Pro Model. It’s also a hallmark of a different era in adidas history when names like Tracy McGrady, Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan reigned supreme. Even LeBron James wore PE pairs during his salad days at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School.

The mid-top cut, sharp design lines, rubber shell toe cap and bold Three Stripe branding are all unchanged from the original release. The colorways are instantly recognizable too: anyone who played high school, college or even pickup basketball in the early ’00s surely remembers the black/white patent leather style or its white tumbled leather cousin with black stripes. Even the embroidered 2G branding on the forefoot is intact.

However, there’s a noticeable difference in the cushioning system. The standard EVA foam that was present in the midsole is gone, replaced with a modern-day BOUNCE setup for responsive court feel and impact protection. Each is finalized by a herringbone outsole. This isn’t the first time in recent memory that adidas has upgraded a turn-of-the-century hoops silhouette with modernized materials —- For instance, McGrady’s signature T-Mac 1 was given a full BOOST footbed to create the T-Mac Millennium in 2018.

The adidas Pro Model 2G is available now for $100 USD via adidas’ website and retailers like Kicks Store.
