California’s Atlas Skateboards and Nike SB have readied a new Dunk High dubbed the “Lost at Sea.” Although the nautical moniker may be overt, this SB Dunk‘s build is in fact inspired by the Air Flight 90 — making for another compelling collaborative addition to the skate-geared Nike sub-label’s eventful 2020.
Uppers are made entirely of a weathered, cracked leather — white on the forefoot, quarter, heel and flaps, light blue on the Swooshes, collar and tongue — while aged cream detailing arrives on the laces and rims the lower half of each Swoosh, locking in the weathered look. The tongue is of special note: apart from swapping out its standard puffy mesh build for a more trim leather construction, it also adds a dash of flair with embroidered white and red branding, flipping an OG Nike Air Flight hit to read “Nike SB Atlas.” Down below, intentionally yellowed midsoles with Zoom Air cushioning in the heel match the laces and light blue outsoles round off the look.
This build furthers the shoe’s narrative: it’s inspired by the Hansa Carrier, a cargo ship that, on the way from Korea to the US in 1990, ran into storms in the Alaska Peninsula and lost 21 40-foot cargo containers — five of which contained 61,000 Nike shoes that began washing up on Pacific Northwestern beaches six months later.
An official release date for the Atlas x Nike SB Dunk High “Lost at Sea” has yet to be announced, but if Nike SB’s standard release protocol for 2020 is any indication, it’ll debut at Atlas first before rolling out to other select skate stockists and Nike SNKRS in later weeks.
