Limited availability didn’t stop AURALEE‘s Japanese fans from coming out in droves to try to get their hands on its Tokyo Design Studio New Balance R_C2 collaboration from 2019 — if anything, the small run unsurprisingly inspired extra demand. In response, AURALEE has rejoined New Balance Tokyo Design Studio for another round, remixing the silhouette with updated materials and colorways.

First seen at AURALEE’s Spring/Summer 2021 presentation, the exclusive New Balance sneakers reveal more details upon closer inspection. Both editions feature the same GORE-TEX lining and slip-resistant outsole as their forebear, having swapped the previous beige hue for light purple and charcoal makeups.

The former shoe is resplendent in pale pastels, while the latter is draped in rich chocolate shades, each highlighting the blend of suede and mesh paneling. Furthermore, these details mirror the palette utilized in AURALEE’s lush SS21 collection, mirroring the pale tailoring, earth-toned knitwear, beige militaria and dark caramel-tinged overcoats.

Available in the West only at SSENSE, the shoes will launch in Japan via AURALEE’s website, the Japanese New Balance web store, Roppongi outpost and its T-HOUSE on March 19.

Meanwhile, New Balance is keeping busy with attractive makeups of its in-line models, including a summery 237 and a hike-friendly 990v5 Trail.
