Barack Obama has launched a new Spotify podcast series, Renegades: Born In The USA. The podcast focuses on a “long and meaningful conversation” between himself and rock n’ roll icon, Bruce Springsteen over the course of eight episodes.

Listeners will catch an inside glimpse at the lives of the unlikeliest of friends as well as in-depth discussions regarding the current issues of the world. The first two installments of the series have already made their way to Spotify and were made available from February 22. The next six episodes are expected to arrive in the following few weeks.

The 44th President of the United States narrates the promotional trailer for the podcast, setting the tone for the podcast, “On the surface, Bruce and I don’t have a lot in common. He’s a white guy from a small town in Jersey. I’m a black guy of mixed race, born in Hawaii. He’s a rock ‘n’ roll icon. I’m… not as cool.”

Obama notes that the rockstar and himself have been on “parallel journeys, looking for a way to connect our own individual searches for meaning, truth and community with the larger story of America.” Throughout the trailer, Obama and Springsteen can be seen engaging in conversation around a variety of subjects including the ideals of masculinity and their respective relationship with their fathers. However, the two also share more light-hearted stories like their 2017 yachting trip with Oprah Winfrey and Tom Hanks.

Back in 2019, Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama both signed a multi-year podcast deal with Spotify. Renegades: Born In The USA is only just the beginning of podcasts audiences will see the Obamas “develop, produce and appear”.
