British Vogue is using its upcoming July 2020 issue to honor the UK’s front-line workers and their efforts amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Featuring three key workers, the covers will include train driver Narguis Horsford, midwife Rachel Millar and supermarket assistant Anisa Omar, all of whom were photographed by Jamie Hawkesworth.

“I am no hero, but I’m proud of being a train driver and the essential role we are playing during the coronavirus crisis,” Horsford tells British Vogue. “Our services are vitally important to keep London moving throughout these unprecedented times and maintaining safety,” she added.

Midwife Millar, who works at Homerton Hospital, recalled one of the hardest moments of the pandemic for her was when she had her bike stolen, something essential to her continuing to avoid public transport. “Within a few hours, a friend who also works at Homerton Hospital had raised over £500 online to help get me back on the road,” she explained. “Another colleague tweeted the story and within an hour, a local company had donated a brand new electric bike. It’s just one example of the community support and kindness that I’ve seen over the past few months.”

Supermarket worker Omar admitted that she does put herself at risk by going into work, “but it’s worth it because you’re helping people”. She continued: “It’s nice being a key worker. My job was not something that was that big of a deal before. But now it’s like we’re important.”

In addition to the three key workers featured on the cover, the upcoming issue also highlights “a host of other inspiring key workers, from NHS staff to shopkeepers, teachers and postal workers.”

You can read the full story over on British Vogue’s website, while the July 2020 issue will be available for digital download on June 5, 2020.

In related news, Sony have postponed its PlayStation 5 event as now is not “a time for celebration”.
