Carving its route in the pressing conversation about racism in America, New York-based collective Ghetto Gastro has put together its Food Is a Weapon T-Shirt to support meaningful organization in America.

According to the Ghetto Gastro, the important release highlights the “farming practices and the culinary innovations of enslaved Africans and Indigenous Americans are the foundation of ‘American’ cuisine. Ensuring that the nation does not forget the agricultural power tied to the labor of colored people throughout history.

Additionally, the T-shirt also marks how food is and has been a race issue in the United States, as Ghetto Gastro says, “underserved areas historically exist as areas of food apartheid.” All profits from the sale of the Food Is a Weapon T-Shirt will be donated to Color Of Change, Rethink and Summaeverythang Community Center.

Priced at $77 USD, the Food Is a Weapon T-Shirt is available now exclusively on Ghetto Gastro’s website.

?? Food is a Weapon?? Never forget that farming practices and the culinary innovations of enslaved Africans and Indigenous Americans are the foundation of “American” cuisine. Never forget that the agricultural power and history of farming in this country is entirely a result of Black people’s labor. Access to food is and has been a race issue. Underserved areas historically exist as areas of food apartheid. We don’t use the term food deserts because that implies a natural occurrence of some sort. This shit is anything but natural, but much like the public lynching of Black people it is as American as apple pie ? Food for Thought✊? You do the dishes. Link to Purchase in Bio ? Food has been used as a weapon against Black people since day one. Learning from the Panthers we know as a collective that feeding our community is essential. Nourishment is necessary✊?Food gives us the strength our bodies and minds need to seize this moment. That being being said we @ghettogastro are proud of our partnership with @rethinkfood.nyc For the past weeks we’ve worked with @rethinkfood.nyc x @lamoradanyc and we will be feeding upwards of 50,000 in the Bronx. Today we have 500 meals, some water, masks and gloves to fortify the protesters on the front lines in Manhattan.
