Major moves in the tech world today as Google’s experimental X division has announced that it has hired Richard Hendricks, best known for his work as founder and CEO of compression algorithm start-up Pied Piper. Hendricks has been brought on by Google X head Astro Teller to aid in the compression of the secretive lab’s many Moonshots—a Googleism for projects with an outside chance of success, like Google Glass or the think-tank’s inaugural mission of getting Google to space. Hendricks is optimistic about the company’s prospects of solving the world’s problems, promising “we can tackle them, or squish them like giants.”Watch the announcement video above.
