The team at Mercedes-AMG has now smashed the previous Nürburgring production car record set by Lamborghini’s 760-horsepower Aventador SVJ back in 2018, thanks to its new 2021 GT Black Series.

At the time, Lamborghini’s racer managed to complete the lap with a time of 6:44.97, but the German automaker has now shaved off 1.35 seconds, finishing all 12.8 miles in just 6:43.616. Even more impressive is the fact that the new GT Black Series actually carries 40 horsepower less than the Aventador SVJ — coming in at 720 horsepower — and carries a front-engine configuration. Mercedes-AMG’s press release also noted that conditions were less than optimal at the time of the record run, suggesting the car could’ve gone even faster. The entire lap was documented and verified by an independent company named Wige Solutions, and Mercedes itself also provided a breakdown of the record-breaking setup, including adjustments to the front splitter, rear wing, suspension, front and rear cambers, anti-roll bars, and adjustable traction control.
