The collaborative MM6 Maison Margiela and The North Face collection feels like it’s been a long time coming. After it emerged in full early this year, the duo offered a closer look but little else ahead of the autumn release.

With that date finally upon us, the co-conspirators have issued detailed shots of their co-branded circular wearables, toying with TNF heritage in a very Margiela way. Specifically, MM6, ostensibly a women’s diffusion line, has revamped The North Face staples with a genderless bent, creating round jackets, fleece vests and parkas that echo Maison Margiela’s landmark Spring 1998 collection, wherein all of the garments laid completely flat when unworn.

A host of The North Face’s Nuptse puffer styles, including outerwear, scarves and gloves, are rendered in classic outdoorsy colors and sport co-branding, the most obvious nod to the collection’s collaborative ethos. Various items are tweaked for additional utility, including the circular jackets that now feature poncho-like zippered armholes, while others are reconstructed to recall Margiela touchstones. This is best realized with the gloves, which are a callback to the house’s long tabi gloves, rendered here in warm winter-friendly textiles.

The North Face has more fashion collaborations in store; most notably it recently teased its Gucci collection.
