The Air Rubber Dunk is an entirely new Nike sneaker co-created by Off-White™’s Virgil Abloh. It combines elements of the SB Dunk and the P-6000, and in this iteration, it also references one of the iconic Air Jordan colorways. It’s a busy shoe with a whole host of elements coming together to create a multi-paneled, multi-textured and multicolored upper, indebted in skate, basketball, and archival Nike design cues.
Most notably, the shoe sports a Dunk-esque silhouette which is overlayed with the technical nature of the P-6000. A metallic silver leather cage wraps around the entire sneaker’s mesh base, while rubber has been used to add deconstructed details all around.
For example, the Swoosh appears as just an outline and is joined by various other rubber segments that outline the toe box, vamp, mid-panel and more. At the rear, a metallic silver teardrop-shaped heel tab houses a “University Blue” Nike Air logo, while other components such as the gum sole unit showcase a window of Air by highlighting the segment in the same shade of blue.
Orange details further accent the shoe, highlighting the eyelets and coloring Off-White™’s signature tag. Further Off-White™ branding appears on the medial mid-panel, noting the shoe’s collaborative nature and the year it was designed.
Rounding out the Air Rubber Dunk is a set of “University Blue” laces that run up the metallic silver tongue, which leads the eye to a co-branded tongue tag. Lastly, yellow insoles are printed with Off-White™’s latest branding style, sporting a black Swoosh alongside red Off-White™ logos and black information.
