With a few months before the Tokyo Olympic Games begin, Ralph Lauren has released their closing ceremony outfit designs for the U.S. team and Paralympic athletes. Ralph Lauren has been Team USA‘s official outfitter since 2008.

The athletes will sport white jackets with blue hoods and collars graced with an American flag patch on the left arm, the U.S. Olympic logo on the right breast, and the classic Ralph Lauren polo logo on the opposite side.

The designs were made with the environment in mind as the patches are leather alternatives made from renewable plant-based materials. Foregoing traditional dye processes, the company decided to use an advanced pre-treatment solution that reduces the amount of water, chemicals, and energy.

“The direction going into the Olympics was to create the most sustainable (clothes) the athlete ever had. To make the athletes look like ambassadors on a global stage. To create products that look fresh, modern, and clean. And in the middle of hot, humid, Tokyo, give them white, light and clean,” the company’s chief innovation and branding officer David Lauren said.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the postponement of the Tokyo Games was a hard setback for everyone, but definitely, a decision that was beneficial for everyone’s safety. In light of the situation, Lauren believes seeing the athletes in uniform will be an important visual for the world.

“Seeing the vitality of our athletes is going to be very life-affirming for us,” he said. “The symbolism of that moment, and to be a symbol in that historic moment of a company that represents America is an honor.”

The opening ceremonies for the Olympics are scheduled to begin on July 23 and run through to August 8.
