Californian label SEQUENCE has only been cooking up its uniquely technical garments since 2019, warping conventional silhouettes to meet its own vision of armor-like apparel. Its second offering, “A Handful of Dust,” expounds upon this ethos with adventurous layering pieces executed in lightweight fabrics and designed with an anatomical bent, taking pattern-making inspiration from the placement of organs and veins in the human body.

Realized in tonal black, dusty “Sand” or a mixture of the two shades, the garments feature breathable, yet sturdy, textiles and blends that range from cupro, linen and tencel to a touch Cordura “Combat Wool,” granting structure to the refined liners, anoraks and fencing jackets. Oversized blazers and shirts further toy with proportions, lent extra adjustability thanks to customizable sleeve lengths, transformable lapels, detachable hoods and expandable zippered panels. Nearly every piece is packed with pockets, with some quiet outerwear subtly stacked with a half-dozen nooks.

Other emerging brands, like DOOR and elephant TRIBAL fabrics, recently introduced their own adventurous seasonal offerings.
