Shoe Palace and New Balance have reunited for two new takes on the 997S, dubbed the “Great White” collection. Inspired by the famous “Red Triangle” area off of the Northern California coast — where almost half of the recorded great white shark attacks on humans have occurred — both shoes are a tribute to the ocean’s apex predators and the Northern California beach towns that Shoe Palace was originally founded in.

Both pairs of Shoe Palace’s upgraded 997 are based around a nautical black and teal color scheme that calls to mind images of San Jose Sharks jerseys. This serves as a base for frighteningly good fanged detailing: heels replicate a shark’s gaping maw with pointy white triangles, while the midfoot’s N logo takes on a two-tone graphic with crashing waves running down the middle. Save for a few material adjustments, each shoe’s upper is nearly identical. The main difference arrives via the midsoles and laces: the lighter pair uses a white midsole and orange laces, while the darker pair places black in both spots. Hints of orange peek through both midsoles’ ENCAP Reveal construction, and contrasting rubber outsoles round off each look.

The Shoe Palace x New Balance 997S “Great White” collection is set to release via the Shoe Palace webstore on November 5. The MSRP for each pair has yet to be announced.
