When adidas Originals released the Niteball back in June 2020 there was much fanfare among the sneaker community celebrating and praising the Three Stripes for getting a chunky sneaker right. Now, the Niteball returns in two more colorways, once more dazzling in palettes of gray and navy.
First up is the “Grey Five/Feather Grey/Dove Grey” colorway, which sees the Niteball’s suede, mesh, and webbing-constructed upper sport an all-over trio of gray hues. While a full tonal palette like this would often drown out the shoe’s details, adidas Originals has been able to use a complementing range of tones to highlight specific ’90s-inspired elements of the shoe and its integrated tech. For example, the thicker Three Stripes stand out against the contrasting cream-gray suede eyestay placket, while the midsole — which features an adidas Streetball-like LIGHTSTRIKE foam component — is very distinctive with its carved and etched aesthetic, complete with a black-and-green grooved outsole.
In contrast is the “Crew Navy/Wild Sepia/Cream White” pair, which swaps out the majority of the gray colorway’s suede for plush leather that will only get better with age. Leather makes up the shoe’s main structural areas, while mesh sits underneath on the mid-panel and toe box alongside a suede eyestay placket and a bronze-toned neoprene tongue, which features a removable Trefoil logo patch just like on the other colorway.
Take a look at both of adidas Originals’ new Niteball colorways above, and pick them up from adidas’ website on March 15 at 11 p.m. GMT (7 p.m. EDT). Both pairs will cost £90 GBP (approx. $125 USD).
