The inagural Women’s Battle at The Berrics (WBATB) began in October of this year, with Lacey Baker and Mariah Duran facing off in the opening round. Now, the skateboarding championship is ramping up for its finale. Tonight, skaters Monica Torres, Samarria Brevard, Candy Jacobs and Lacey Baker will battle it out for the championship.
Baker hails from California and has become one of the top skaters in the game with seven X Games medals. Monica Torres comes from Brazil and counts Volcom and Ethika among her sponsors. Samarria Brevard of California is training to compete in the 2020 Olympics. Candy Jacobs from the Netherlands, meanwhile, has competed in multiple X Games and international tourmanents.
Baker and Torres will face off in one round of the semifinal, opposite Jacobs and Brevard, with the winners of each round duking it out for the top spot. In celebration of the tournament’s finale, The Berrics will also host a performance from New York rapper Junglepussy.
The Battle At The Berrics, hosted by skate site The Berrics, originally began in 2008 as a men’s skating championship and has since become one of the top skate tournaments in the country. The tournament sees skaters divvied up into four brackets, with two skaters facing off in each round to move to the next level. For its first WBATB, The Berrics asked women skaters to enter via Instagram using the hashtag #WhoIsInWBATB. The official lineup was announced on October 15.
You can watch the WBATB finale tonight in the livestream below, which begins at 6:30 p.m. PST, with the tournament itself starting at 7 p.m. PST. For more skating news, read about U.S.A. Skateboarding’s efforts to make the sport a part of the 2028 Paralympics.
